If the recording base has a sharp point that pinches the patient during bite registration, it will cause the patient to alter their jaw position to avoid discomfort. This leads to a deviation from the true centric relation, resulting in an incorrect record. Accurate centric relation requires a stable and comfortable base to allow natural muscle relaxation and correct mandibular positioning. Any discomfort or pain distorts the jaw closure, compromising the reliability of the registration.
