Passage : Read the following extract and answer questions: Adults and children are frequently confronted with statements about the alarming rate of loss of tropical rainforests. For example, one graphic illustration to which children might readily relate is the estimate that rainforests are being destroyed at a rate equivalent to one thousand football fields every forty minutes-about the duration of a normal classroom period. In the face of the frequent and often vivid media coverage, it is likely that children will have formed ideas about rain forests what and where they are, why they are important, what endangers them-Independent of any formal tuition. It is also possible that some of these ideas will be mistaken.

Passage : Read the following extract and answer the questions An intellectual is one who is enlightened; and being an enlightened person, he has to give light to others who are in need of it. In every society, we find intellectuals such as philosophers, scientists, scholars, writers, and critics; and they, as enlightened men, have a great responsibility towards society. In a society, all cannot be intellectuals. If a time comes when all are intellectuals it would be a blessed time indeed; but at present, at any rate, all are not intellectuals and those who are intellectuals have the great responsibility of guiding others on to the right path. If today we have our civilisation and culture, if we have orders and security in life, and if our life better than that of our primitive ancestors, it is because the intellectuals, from time to time, have been guiding humanity on the path of felicity and amity. Therefore, the intellectual should come out of his ivory tower and try to elevate others to his level.

Passage : Read the following extract and answer the questions Environment implies a healthy natural balance in the air, water, animals, plants, and other natural resources. It contributes to the existence and development of organisms but does the opposite if pollution occurs. Pollution is the process of creating the environment dirty by adding harmful substances into it. Industrialization and other anthropogenic activities constantly pollute the environment and harm nature, posing serious threat to the existence of mankind. The increase of world population implies growth of industries, and industrial units release toxic gases and filthy poisonous effluents. Besides, trees are cut down sentence ডিহ্যাঁ-রোধক তাই না-বোধক হবে tag এ অর্থাৎ didn't হবে। for fuel, various commercial purposes, and building houses, reducing the supply of oxygen. Consequently. the shelter of birds and other animals is destroyed and ultimately the ecological balance is upset. Therefore. environment saving scientific methods should be adopted in development activities and environment protecting rules and regulations need to be enacted towards reducing emissions of toxic gases and poisonous effluents.

Passage : Read the following passage and answer the question Leadership should be among those who have no axe to grind. People should have leaders with straightforwardness, clear conception, feeling for the poor and above all, with patriotism and statesmanlike foresight. It is essential that the decision taken by the leaders must be for the interest of the majority of people. They must understand the political, economic and social conditions of the country and should never hesitate to take any stern action against any wrong, come what may. They should see that unpatriotic and anti-social elements do not get the upper hand. It is by the integrity that the leaders of a country shall be judged from time to time, not by their speeches only.

Passage : Read the following passage and answer the questions While remarkable feats can be achieved without a considerable amount of hassle because of social media, information not thoroughly checked and researched, fueled by the intention to jump on the bandwagon of whatever topic is popular, can lead to the spread of misinformation. In the era of fake news, it is always important to vet and cite sources before sharing any factual claims online, where misinformation can spread like wildfire. While it can be tempting to press the 'share' button on a post that resonates with us, the need to ascertain its validity is more important.

Passage : Read the following passage and answer the questions: Some educationalists think that the aim of education.is merely to give knowledge. They want students to read books and do nothing else. Others think that knowledge alone is not enough; only that which enables one to earn his or her living can be called education. Still others believe that education should aim solely at making good citizens and real patriots. As a matter of fact, education should aim at all these three things put together. It should give people knowledge, make them self sufficient and enable them to serve others.

Passage : Read the following passage and answer questions: The July Revolution of 2024 in Bangladesh marked a groundbreaking chapter in the nation's political landscape. Triggered by a controversial court ruling reinstating a discriminatory quota system in public service recruitment, the movement rapidly evolved from peaceful student protests into nationwide uprising for justice, meritocracy, and democratic accountability. Within days the movement gained momentum as students organized myriad modes of protests in Rangpur, Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, and other cities. The revolution becoming a symbol of youth power awakened a new politiçal consciousness in the country and inspired hope for a fairer, more democratic future free from inequality and suppression of dissent.

Passage : Read the following passage and answer questions .In an age dominated by speed and instant gratification, patience has quietly receded from everyday practice. Many people equate waiting with weakness, unaware that endurance often demands greater strength than impulsive action. While technology promotes efficiency, it frequently cultivates restlessness by reducing tolerance for delay. As a result, individuals may abandon long-term goals in favour of immediate but lesser rewards. History, however, reveals that enduring achievements are rarely born of haste. Those who persist through uncertainty often develop judgment refined by reflection rather than impulse. Patience, therefore, is not passive resignation but an active discipline that resists distraction.
