In a severe Class II division 1 malocclusion, there is a marked discrepancy between the maxilla and mandible, typically with the maxilla positioned significantly ahead of the mandible. The ANB angle measures the anteroposterior relationship between the maxilla (Point A) and mandible (Point B). A normal ANB angle ranges from +2° to +4°. In severe Class II cases, this angle increases due to maxillary protrusion or mandibular retrusion, often reaching around +8°. This elevated ANB angle quantitatively reflects the skeletal discrepancy characteristic of Class II malocclusion.
