Banding teeth is primarily performed to provide a stable mechanical anchor for orthodontic appliances, to facilitate the attachment of brackets or other devices, and to aid in the retention of tooth position after treatment. It is not used for aesthetic purposes, as bands are metal rings that are visible and do not enhance the appearance of teeth. Therefore, banding teeth for purely aesthetic reasons is inappropriate and not indicated in clinical practice.
