বর্তমান বয়স ক হলে ৩ বছর পরে ক+৩ এবং ৩দিয়ে গুণ করলে হবে ৩(ক+৩) আবার এই বয়স থেকে বিয়োগ করতে হবে তিনবছর আগের বয়স ক -৩ এর ৩গুণ = ৩(ক-৩) তাহলে বর্তমান বয়স পাওয়া যাবে। প্রশ্ন মতে, ৩(ক+৩) -৩(ক-৩) = ক বা, ৩ক+৯ -৩ক +৯ = ক সুতরাং ক = ১৮ অর্থাৎ লোকটির বয়স ১৮ বছর।
