other is 184 - x
x/3 = {(184 - x)/7} + 8
⇒ (x/3) - {(184 - x)/7 = 8
⇒ {7x - (3 × 184) + 3x} /21 = 8
⇒ 10x - 552 = 168
⇒ 10x = 720
⇒ x = 720/10 = 72
Another number = 180 - 72
= 108
∴ Smaller number is 72
