If the average of 7, 13, p and q is 17, what is the average of (p+11) and (q-9)?

A    50

B    25

C    21

D    14

Solution

Correct Answer: Option B

(7+13+p+q)/4= 17

or, p+q =  68 - 7-13

or, p+q = 48

Thus, the average of (p+11) and (q-9) is:

[(p+11) + (q-9)]/2

= [p+11+q-9]/2

= [p+q+11-9]/2

= [p+q+2]/2

= [48+2]/2

=50/2

= 25
