The perimeters of two squares are 40cm and 30cm. Find the perimeter of a third square whose area is equal to the difference of the areas of the two squares.

A 18cm

B 24cm

C 26.46cm

D 36cm

Solution

Correct Answer: Option C

The perimeters of two squares are 40cm and 30cm.
The sides of two squares are 40/4 cm = 10 cm and 30/4 = 7.5 cm.

area of third square = 102 - (7.5)2
                              = 100 - 56.25
                              = 43.75

side of third square = √43.75
                             = 6.614

∴ perimeter of square = 4 × 6.614
                                = 26.46 cm
