16 liters of a mixture contains milk and water in the ratio 5 : 3. how much milk should be removed from this mixture, so that the resulting mixture has milk and water in the ratio 4 : 3

A 4

B 3

C 1

D 2

E 5

Solution

Correct Answer: Option D

Old mixture:    milk = 5/8 ×16 =10 liters

water =3/8×16=6 liters

Let the milk removed be ‘x’

New mixture   milk be =10-x

water = 6 liters

New ratio = 4:3

⇒(10-x)/6 = 4/3 ⇒24=30-3x

⇒ 3x = 6

⇒  x = 2

Hence, 2 liter of milk should be removed.
