A tin contains a mixture of coke and pepsi in the ratio of 7 : 3 and another tin contains the coke and pepsi in the ratio of 5 : 4. In what proportion should the solution of the two tins be mixed to achieve a perfect proportion of 2 : 1(inn which coke is 2 times of pepsi)?

A 11 : 4

B 10 : 3

C 12 : 5

D 11 : 7

E None of these

Solution

Correct Answer: Option B

According to the question, in,

The mixture M1-

Coke : pepsi = 7 : 3

The mixture M2-

Coke : pepsi = 5 : 4

Proportion of coke in the mixture M1 = 7/10,

Proportion of coke in the mixture M2 = 5/9,

Proportion of the new mixture = 2/3 (required)

According to the law of mixture-

\(Required\ ratio = \frac{{\frac{2}{3} - \frac{5}{9}}}{{\frac{7}{{10}} - \frac{2}{3}}} = \frac{{\frac{1}{9}}}{{\frac{1}{{30}}}} = \frac{{10}}{3} = 10:3\)

Hence, the required ratio is 10 : 3.
