A and B are partners in a business, A contributes 3/5 of the capital for 10 months and B received 2/5 of the profits. For how long B’s money was used in the business?
Correct Answer: Option C
Let total capita income be ‘x’ such that A’s contribution is 3/5 of the profit = 3/5 × x = 3x/5, which results in B’s contribution as 1- 3/5 = 2/5 of the profit = 2/5 × x = 2x/5.
Months for which A contributed is 10 months and let B’s contribution is for ‘t’ months.
Ratio of A : B = ( Amount of money × Number of months)
= (3x/5 × 10) : (2x/5 × t)
= 6x : 2tx/5
= 3 : t/5
B’s profit was 2/5 such that A’s profit would be 1 – 2/5 = 3/5 such that ratio of profit of A : B = 3 : 2
Comparing the above equation
⇒ 3 : t/5 = 3 : 2
⇒ 3t/5 = 6
⇒ t = 30/3 = 10 months
