Three men rent a pasture for Rs. 1328. The first uses it to graze 25 sheep for 5 months; the second uses it to graze 15 sheep for 7 months and the third 37 sheep for 5 months. How much should the first man pay as rent?

A Rs. 276

B Rs. 220

C Rs. 440

D Rs. 400

E Rs. 244

Solution

Correct Answer: Option D

Let first user is A, Second is B, and third is C.

Since, the first uses it to graze 25 sheep for 5 months; the second uses it to graze 15 sheep for 7 months and the third 37 sheep for 5 months.

Ratio of shares of A, B and C = Ratio of their rents

= [(25 × 5) : (15 × 7) : (37 × 5)]

= 125: 105: 185

= 25: 21: 37

Given: Rent of pasture= Rs. 1328

∴ A’s share of rent = Rs. (25/83) × 1328 = Rs. 400.
