If a, b, c, d, e are five alternate odd numbers, their average is:

A 5 (a + 4)

B abcde/5

C 5 (a + b + c + d + e)

D (a + 8)

E None of these

Solution

Correct Answer: Option D

∵ a, b, c, d and e are alternate odd numbers, assuming a to be the least one of them,

b = a + 2 + 2 = a + 4,

c = a + 8,

d = a + 12,

e = a + 16

We know that, average = Sum of all quantities/Number of quantities

∴ Average = (a + a + 4 + a + 8 + a + 12 + a + 16) = 5a + 40

⇒ Average = (5a + 40)/5 = a + 8
