In the following question, one or two equation(s) is/are given. You have to solve both the equations and find the relation between ‘l’ and ‘m’ and mark correct answer.

I. 225l2 – 4 = 0

II. (225m)1/2 + 2 = 0

A l > m

B l ≥ m

C l < m

D l ≤ m

E x = y or the relation cannot be determined

Solution

Correct Answer: Option E

We will solve both the equations separately.

Equation I:

225l2 – 4 = 0

⇒ (15l)2 = 4

⇒ 15l = (4)1/2

⇒ l = ± 2/15

Equation II:

(225m)1/2 + 2 = 0

⇒ (225m)1/2 = -2

⇒ m1/2 = -2/15

This shows that square root of m is negative, which is not possible of real numbers. This means there is no value of m for which it satisfies this equation.

Thus, Relation cannot be established.
