Let the C.P. of the article be Rs. x.
S.P. of the article = C.P. + Profit = x + (17% of x) = x + 0.17x = 1.17x
Sales tax = 12% of 1.17x = 0.1404x
Sale price of the article = Rs.6,552
⇒ S.P. of the article + Sales tax = Rs.6552
⇒ 1.17x + 0.1404x = 6552
⇒ x = 6552/1.3104 = Rs.5000
