The average of six numbers is x and the average of three of these is y. If the average of the remaining three is z, then :

A x = y + z

B 2x = y + z

C 3x = 2y - 2z

D none of these

Solution

Correct Answer: Option B

Total of all 6 numbers = 6 × x = 6x
Total of the first 3 numbers = 3 × y = 3y
Total of the remaining 3 numbers = 3 × z = 3z

So,
6x = 3y + 3z

Now divide both sides by 3:
2x = y + z
