A salesman is appointed on the basic salary of Rs. 1200 per month and the condition that for every sales of Rs. 10,000 above Rs. 10,000, he will get 50% of basic salary and 10% of the sales as a reward. This incentive scheme does not operate for the first Rs. 10000 of sales. What should be the value of sales if he wants to earn Rs. 7600 in a particular month?
Correct Answer: Option B
Let ‘x’ is the number of Rs. 10000 sales he achieves over the initial Rs. 10000.
For every Rs. 10000 sale he gets 50% of basic salary and 10% of the sales as a reward.
i.e. \(1200 \times \frac{{50}}{{100}} + 10000 \times \frac{{10}}{{100}} = Rs.1600\)
So, for every Rs. 10000 over the initial Rs. 10000, he will get Rs. 1600 extra.
∴ For ‘x’ number of extra sales of Rs. 10000 each, He will get Rs. 1600x.
∴ His total income = His basic salary + extra income = 1200 + 1600x
Given that, He wants to earn = Rs. 7600
⇒ 1200 + 1600x = 7600
⇒ x = 4
∴ 4 sales of Rs. 10000 he achieves over the initial Rs. 10000.
i.e. total sale = 10000 + 10000 × 4 = Rs. 50000
