60 kg of certain variety rice at Rs 32 per kg is mixed with 48 kg of another variety of rice and the mixture is sold at the average price of Rs 28 per kg if there be no profit and no loss due to the new selling price, what is the price of the second variety of rice?

Correct Answer: Option D
Let price of the second variety of rice is Rs ‘x’ per kg, then,
Total cost price of first variety of rice = 60 × 32 = Rs 1920,
And, total cost of second variety of rice = Rs 48 × x = Rs 48x
∴ Total selling price of both quality of rice = (60+48) × 28
= Rs 108 × 28
= Rs 3024
Since, there is neither profit nor loss,
Therefore,
⇒ 1920 + 48x = 3024
⇒ 48x = 3024 – 1920
⇒ 48x = 1104
⇒ x = 23
Therefore, price of second variety of rice is Rs 23 per kg.
