A boat goes 16 km in 2 hour along the stream and for same distance boat takes 4 hour opposite the stream. What is speed of boat in still water = ?
Correct Answer: Option B
Let the speed of boat in still water = x km/hour
and speed of stream = Y km/hour.
∴ speed along the stream ⇒ \(x + y = \frac{{16}}{2}8\;km/hour\) --- (i)
& speed along the opposite stream \(\Rightarrow x - y = \frac{{16}}{4} = 4\;km/hour\) --- (ii)
∴ speed of boat in still water–
(i) + (ii)
⇒ 2x = (8 + 4) km/hour
\(\Rightarrow {\rm{\;}}x = \frac{1}{2} \times 12 = 6\;km/hour\)
