In the following question, one or two equation(s) is/are given. On their basis, you have to determine the relation between p and q and then give answer

I. 2p2 = 23p – 63

II. 2q (q-8) = q-36

A p = q

B p > q

C p < q

D p ≤ q

E p ≥ q

Solution

Correct Answer: Option B

Equation 1:

2p2 = 23p – 63

⇒ 2p2 - 14p – 9p + 63 = 0

⇒ 2p (p- 7) -9 (p - 7) = 0

⇒ (2p - 9) (p – 7) = 0

⇒ 2p – 9 = 0 and p – 7 = 0

⇒ p = 9/2 and 7

Equation 2:

2q (q-8) = q-36

⇒ 2q-7 = q-36

⇒ 2 q-7 × q36 = 1

⇒ q29 = ½

⇒ q = (1/2)29

Clearly, q < 1

And hence: p > q
